cookbook winner and recipe revealed!

Thanks so much to all of the comments and entries for Gooseberry Patch's new cookbook, Homestyle in a Hurry (winner of the cookbook announced below).  As promised, I tallied up all of the results to determine which of my featured recipes got the most votes.

The winner...Special Chicken Noodle Soup!  

This soup won by a landslide and with good reason.  This is the perfect weather for warm, creamy goodness, and I think you'll find that this soup fits the bill.

First, I should tell you that I did make a few adjustments.  The recipe calls for 8 cups of water and 8 teaspoons chicken bullion granules - I used 8 cups of chicken broth.  The recipe also calls for 6 1/2 cups of uncooked wide egg noodles - I used a 16 ounce package of gluten-free pasta.  Did these substitutions change or hurt the recipe?  Not one bit!

You first bring the broth to a boil.  Add your noodles and cook until tender (check the package for the appropriate boiling time).  Don't drain!

Next, grab 2 cans of cream of chicken soup and about 3 cups of cubed cooked chicken and add those to your stockpot.  That cream of chicken soup really gives this soup a creamy texture and hearty flavor.  Once the chicken is heated through, remove from the heat.

Finally...the ingredient that makes this soup so special...1 cup of sour cream!  Just stir in the sour cream and serve.

This really is phenomenal must try it!  In fact, I think I need to go have some right now.

Special Chicken Noodle Soup
from Gooseberry Patch's Homestyle in a Hurry
8 cups water
8 t. chicken bullion granules
6 1/2 cups wide egg noodles, uncooked
2 cans cream of chicken soup
3 cups cooked chicken, cubed
1 cup sour cream

My note: You can substitute chicken broth for the water and bullion.  You can also substitute a 16 ounce package of noodles (gluten-free is fine) for the egg noodles.

In a stockpot over medium heat, bring water and bullion to a boil.  Add noodles and cook until tender, about 10 minutes.  Do not drain!  Stir in soup and chicken; heat through.  Remove from heat and stir in sour cream.  Serves 4 to 6.

  6. I made this recipe tonight and it was a big hit!
    Like you I used 8cups of chicken broth ( low sodium for us). I absolutely love egg noodles so I had to use them for sure. I also added 1 cup of frozen peas and carrots. I loved it and so did my fiance.
